Growing vegetables, flowers, and community wellbeing in the heart of Upper Afan Valley. A peaceful space for all ages and abilities to connect with nature and each other.
Located on the site of the former Cymmer Comprehensive School Garden, our community garden serves the village of Cymmer and surrounding areas in the Upper Afan Valley. We provide opportunities to grow vegetables, flowers, and enjoy a peaceful environment to relax and connect with nature.
Opportunities for skills development, volunteering, and social connection in a positive outdoor environment.
Creating a welcoming space that improves quality of life through gardening, social connection, and access to nature for the entire community.
Inclusivity, sustainability, community wellbeing, and environmental stewardship guide everything we do.
Our garden offers various spaces and activities for everyone to enjoy:
Grow your own seasonal vegetables in our communal growing spaces. Learn about organic gardening and sustainable food production.
Beautiful flower beds that provide colour throughout the seasons and support local pollinators like bees and butterflies.
Peaceful spots to sit, relax, and enjoy the tranquillity of nature. Perfect for reading, meditation, or simply unwinding.
Areas designed to support local biodiversity with native plants, bug hotels, and bird feeders.
Our garden is open to the whole community, with particular focus on including:
Safe spaces for children to learn about nature and gardening. Family-friendly activities and events throughout the year.
Opportunities for skills development, volunteering, and social connection in a positive outdoor environment.
Accessible gardening options, social gatherings, and gentle exercise opportunities in a supportive setting.
Raised beds, accessible paths, and tailored activities to ensure everyone can participate and enjoy the garden.
We also support those experiencing financial hardship or social isolation, providing a welcoming community space for all.
There are many ways to participate in our community garden:
Join our regular gardening sessions, help maintain paths and beds, or assist with community events. No experience necessary!
Participate in our shared growing spaces. Learn new skills while contributing to our community food production.
Schools, community groups, and organisations are welcome to visit or arrange special gardening sessions.
